ANTI-HUMAN TRAFFICKING

INTEGRATED ANTI HUMAN TRAFFICKING UNIT (IAHTU) INAUQURATED AT CRIME BRANCH

The Integrated Anti Human Trafficking Unit (IAHTU) in Crime Branch was inaugurated by Sri M.M.Praharaj, DG&IG of Police, Odisha, at Crime Branch today i.e.on 26.03.11at 9.30 AM. This unit will have jurisdiction over wholeof Orissa.
Sri Abhay, IG of Police welcomed the dignitaries in the inaugural function and explained the function/role of IAHTU.Mr. Abhay informed that all five IAHTU has been opened by redistribution of manpower and sanction of posts is still awaited from Govt.
DGP Shri Praharaj expressed his satisfaction over opening of five such units over the State in current month to combat the trafficking problem in the state. He further stated that trafficking in persons, particularly womenand children for various purposes such as commercialsexual exploitation (CSE), forced labour, forced marriages, domestic servitude, adoption, begging, public sport etc. is an organized crime that gravely violates basic human rights of victims.
He expressed determination of Orissa Police to combat Human trafficking of all types.
The inaugural meeting was attended by many Senior Police Officers such as ADGP,HRPC,IG, Vigilance, IG,Intelligence, IG (L&O), IG, Modernisation, IG, Personnel, IG, Railways,IG,Central Range, IG,SAP, IG,SCRB,IG,Training, IG,HG&FS etc. Representatives of State Social Welfare Board, State Women Commissionand other Govt. Deptts were also present. Members of different NGOs like Basundhara, Project Sworajya, NAWO, Utkal Mahila Samiti, Cuttack Child LIne, LIons Club,Cuttack, Maa Ghara and LISA etc. also attended the inauguralfunction.
